I’m absolutely in love with this dish. Who would think the flavors of Sausages with Grapes and Cherries would work together?
About Sausage with Grapes and Cherries
This recipe came from Ina Garten.
No, it’s not one of hers, but it actually came from a friend of hers who owns a restaurant in New York.
This recipe, well…without the cherries, has been on the menu for years.
It’s an old favorite and everybody always asks for it.
So Ina invited her on her show to cook it for her viewers.
I was absolutely fascinated. It’s such an odd combination of flavors that I thought I had to recreate it.
It turns out that is actually a very old recipe that I think was created in honor of the grape harvest in Italy.
It makes sense.
They used what they had which was grapes, and Marsala wine and of course Italy is known for their sausages.
So some clever cook decided to cook them all together.
And the result is pure magic.
I did change it up a bit to make it a bit healthier.
I substituted spicy chicken sausage for the pork sausage
And because I like cherries I thought they would be a flavorful and fun addition.
The cherries actually add an extra touch of sweetness. Not much, but just enough.
And the wonderful thing about this recipe is that’s so simple.
Ingredients for Sausages with Grapes and Cherries
- Grapes
- Cherries
- Butter
- Marsala wine
- Smoked Chicken Andouille Sausage
That’s it! As simple as can be, but these 5 ingredients add up to HUGE flavor.
How to Make Sausages with Grapes and Cherries
And it’s so simple to make. Just add your grapes and cherries to an oven proof frypan set on medium high heat.
Add 2 Tbsp of butter and mix the grapes and cherries until the fruit is well coated.
Then add a splash of Marsala wine and finally nestle the Andouille Sausage in among the fruit and place the pan in a 450 degree oven for 15 minutes.
Turn the sausages over for even browning and continue to cook another 10 minutes.
And then prepare yourself for the best sausage you’ve ever had in your life!
It’s a perfect date night dinner.
